Why I Secretly Wanted Moore To Lose: Brooks 2020!

Rep. Mo Brooks was the true Trumpian candidate in Alabama, which is why I endorsed him in the primary. When the accusations against Roy Moore first arose, I proposed that the president make a deal to replace Moore with Brooks.

Obviously, the GOP would be in a much better position right now if only Republicans had learned to hang on my every word.

Instead, everyone did exactly the wrong thing, and they got the worst of all possible worlds.

Trump should have endorsed Brooks in the primary, but he endorsed Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s pro-amnesty candidate, Luther Strange, on the advice of his son-in-law. Because who knows Alabama politics better than Jared Kushner? (I guess we can scratch the expression, “As goes Kushner, so goes Alabama!”)

Now Trump has lost twice in a state that voted for him by a nearly 3-to-1 margin over Hillary just last year. Apparently, Trump’s voters won’t blindly follow him, whatever he does. I wonder if this is relevant information for the midterms …

McConnell spent millions upon millions of dollars in nasty ads to defeat Mo Brooks in the primary, because Brooks takes sensible positions on immigration.

Can’t have that! McConnell pulled out all the stops to block Brooks, so he could keep big donors rolling in cheap foreign workers. Soon they’ll have all the labor they need — and a federal government run by Hugo Chavez. The Chamber of Commerce is “diversifying” Republicans out of their jobs.

Thanks to McConnell’s brilliant strategy of opposing Brooks, now he’s stuck with another Democrat — and a razor-thin Senate majority. McConnell fully deserves to lose his majority, but the rest of us don’t deserve the horror of a Democratic Senate. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out a way to do one and avoid the other.

The most status-conscious Republicans were hysterical about Roy Moore’s holy roller Christianity. I hope their tax cut bill dies. Should’ve backed Mo Brooks!

The good news is, even with the media carrying on 24-7 about Moore being a “CHILD MOLESTER!” and “PEDOPHILE,” the election was still a nail-biter. I salute the good people of Alabama and admire their contempt for the media.

But, otherwise, Moore’s loss is good news for patriotic Americans. First of all, the media would have set up tents outside Moore’s Senate office around the clock, capturing his every utterance, so they could broadcast anything stupid he said and demand that all Republicans defend it or disavow it.

Most important, now Mo Brooks can run in 2020 and return the seat to a respectable Alabamian who is rock-solid on the most important issue.

Everyone who screwed the pooch on this one better realize fast: All that matters is immigration. It’s all that matters to the country, and it’s all that matters for winning elections.

“Anti-establishment” is not a winning issue. Without immigration as the GOP’s lodestar, every election will be a rerun of the Tea Party from 2010 to 2012, when Republicans lost Senate seat after Senate seat, entirely in unforced errors.

We’ll have to watch helplessly as “establishment Republicans” fight “anti-establishment Republicans” over the right to milk a he-goat. Both sides will lose, and Democrats will sweep Congress and destroy our country.

Immigration was never a top issue for Moore, though, when pressed, he gave the right answers. That’s not a good way to prioritize.

Republicans who treat immigration as a backburner issue should be required to run on the issues they consider more important — in California. See how your arguments fare in a state that’s already been transformed by immigration. That’s your new country.

How stupid do you have to be to carry on about taxes, defense spending, ISIS, abortion or the Ten Commandments while intentionally losing on the one issue that will determine the outcome of all these other issues?  Too stupid to be of any real help.

That’s why McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan keep producing loss after loss for Trump. They’ve turned the Trump presidency into the Bush presidency — but, this time, with Jared Kushner! (Obviously, any Republican president would desperately seek Kushner’s counsel — but could Jeb! have gotten Ivanka, too?)

GOP candidates are not going to win on hating the Republican establishment any more than Republicans are going to win on Donald Trump’s personality. The Alabama election proved both sides of that equation.

For years, Sen. Jeff Sessions, whose seat was being replaced in Alabama, was the one stalwart on immigration in the Senate — and a thorn in Mitch McConnell’s side. Sessions won his last re-election with 97 percent of the vote. (And then he voted for all those tax cut and partial-birth abortion bills you idiot Republicans are so obsessed with — and which would never get a hearing in California.)

What was Trump’s winning issue, again? Three syllables … sounds like “BUILD THE WALL”? During the campaign, every time Trump came out with a new proposal on immigration, other Republicans would hysterically denounce him -– and then he’d soar in the polls.

Now that he’s tried everything else, can’t Trump try the issue that won him the election? We want to get tired of winning.

  • Thank God we have Ann, a person who gets “it” and has the ability to write with incredible clarity. Let’s quit setting ourselves up for defeat when winning is simpler and easier.

  • Roy Moore would have easily won had the GOP backed him… the GOP, including the President, threw him under the bus. Trump’s late endorsement did not help in fact it appeared to be nothing more than an acknowledgement that Moore was only his choice by default… and not the best choice on the ballot. The GOP is in fact in league with the Deep State… Establishment. They are working together with the Democrats in a bi-partisan effort to fundamentally transform America into a third world economy and member of the New World Order. The people are being abandoned and their champion is being neutered for lack of a consistent, clear political agenda and policy. Trump needs to focus on draining the swamp … it is the swamp that is keeping his hands tied in Congress and his programs to make America Great Again from being effectively implemented.

    • The cancer, stage 4, that eats away at America, our entrenched government, will not be eradicated sans rebellion. Our transformed, milky-toast, society of today has no stomach for such! Being the “pessimist” my wife says I am, I believe that America’s slide onto the ash heap of history, though perhaps slightly slowed, will continue….The simple fact of America’s cultural decline, over the past fifty-odd years, is the harbinger of coming attractions.

  • But first we have to defeat the RINO’s before we can begin to move this country forward. They will continually do everything in their power to subjugate anyone who tries break the hold political pundits who claim to know what is best for us deplorable s. Once we get past them we can begin to defeat partisanship between the parties. Democrats will eventually clean their own house once they realize their survival depends on it.

  • I like Ann but disagree with a lot in her post. Especially stating “…Moore’s ;loss is good for patriotic Americans…” How can Ann write such knowing the verbiage stated by the Democrat Jones? The loss is terrible for patriotic Americans, as true Conservative patriotic voters did not vote. Look at what we now have in Congress? Christians are pathetic in their voting and Ann needs to parse some words differently. Art LeBeau, Villa Ridge, MO. (Christian & Conservative)

  • Well, Ann, you are only partially on target with this one. Conservatives genuinely need more than just immigration as an issue they champion.

Here is the the current and real dynamic among conservatives. We want what Republicans have always wanted – limited and competent government at the federal level. We want principle-driven politics. We want fighters for our causes, not a bunch of cowards who are too afraid to fight leftists in the same way leftist fight.

A gloves-off, no-holds barred, spit-in-their-faces candidate is going to get the Republican vote, even if there are allegations of child molestation in his or her background. Republicans are simply fed up with the leftist-dominated media being allowed to have their way with thin allegations dredged up from decades ago. We are sick to death of Republicans who can’t seem to do any oppo-research on Democratic candidates. we are sick to death of Republicans who throw in the towel and refuse to fight back against smears and outrageous claims.

Despite his own baggage, Romney might have won the Presidency if he had continued attacking Obama’s lies and incompetence as he did during the 2nd(?) debate. Instead, after the predictable leftist wave of faux outrage alleging racisim, Romney just handed his balls over and waved a white flag.

    • Problem being, those “Republicans are sick of leftist crap….” are being overrun by the Left bussing, by the boat loads, English deficient immigrants across our borders to vote in elections. Continuing our shattered, not broken, immigration system, and allowing states’ demographics to be changed, all but assures “Republicans will REMAIN sick of leftist crap!”

  • Beatch Mc Cantdoanythingright and the GOP aka Gross Old Pricks spent $30 to get Moore knocked out in the Primary against Lucifer Deranged and Moore still won. The progressive liberal demoncrap commies kept attacking Moore with false allegations from the trailer trash that they siphoned from the gutter by dragging a $20 bill through a Trailer Park. Neither the Gross Old Pricks and the Rejects Nasty Commies (RNC) came to Moores aid. In fact the That Turncoat Sinister Snowflake the Snake advertised to the public that he gave a $100 for the progressive liberal demoncrap commie Dog Jones. Where are the Accusers now? They are not needed so they have all dispersed just like when Herman Cain had his entourage of accuser.

    • Wonder if Judge Moore can sue the accusers now? If these allegations were made against me, and weren’t true, I would do something. Celebrities can seldom sue accusers because the celebrity is in the spotlight and can’t show real damages. Moore can definitely show big damages since he has lost a Senate seat and his good reputation. As for me, my reputation is worth more than keeping a little money.

  • “…I proposed that the president make a deal to replace Moore with Brooks.”

And just how is that legally done? (Just a question, maybe it can be.)

“Instead, everyone did exactly the wrong thing, and they got the worst of all possible worlds.”

There is a reason the Republican party is called the stupid party. (see below)

“… but he endorsed Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s pro-amnesty candidate, Luther Strange,…”

Probably had to do this to get some kind of deal with McConnell.

“Thanks to McConnell’s brilliant strategy of opposing Brooks, now he’s stuck with another Democrat…”

That was the goal. Not necessarily a Democrat, but I suspect that the “establishment” Republicans really want the progressive agenda to succeed and just want to pose as the opposition party. All just a Kabuki dance for us normals. McConnell looked pleased when he was being interviewed after Jones was elected. The only reasonable explination of the actions of McConnell and the rest of the establishment Republicans over the years is that they want progressivism (i.e. socialism) in America and that is why they cannot allow true conservatives into the power structure. If you can’t get a “moderate” Republican, better a Democrat than a conservative seems to be the mantra for the establishment Republicans.

  • Immigrants aren’t the problem. This has turned out to be a racist thing. The problem is Democrats, who invite poor immigrants, because they know they will receive much more in govt benefits than they pay in taxes, becoming reliable Democrat voters.Don’t blame the immigrants for taking advantage,If I were a poor Mexican or Asian,I would try to get to California ASAP.

    • She blamed the Republican inattention to “immigration”, not “immigrants”. The word is in the text at least 6 times, “immigrants”, zero times.

Please read before you comment; you sound like a Democrat.

  • Can we hope that Jared and Ivanka will go back to NY as part of the end-of-year-one team change?

  • “Sessions won his last re-election with 97 percent of the vote….”

And I blame Trump. The republicans have a deep bench, there are many who don’t currently hold office from whom Trump might have picked. We need every single seat in both the house and the senate. I know Sessions was an early supporter, in fact, I was almost shocked when he endorsed Trump. So there was some payback involved, but even now Sessions is compromised as AG. HE should have returned to the Senate to make room for Giuliani, someone with teeth.

  • Immigration is four syllables. don’t mean to be petty.

  • The “below the belt” stroke of genius with the Socialist/Communist Left is, and has been, the changing demographics in what were once “Conservative” states! Continuing to allow unfettered “immigration,” both legal and illegal, has all but assured America will attain “Banana Republic” status through our vaunted election process….

  • Great column, Ann

  • THe only good thing about Judge Moore not being in Congress would be if he was appointed to the Supreme Court, this time of the US, not just Alabama. This loss has shown the Establishment/Swamp/Deep-State that they can commit massive, egregious vote fraud with impunity. Just guess what will happen next year!

  • But, I just read yesterday that Brooks has Stage 4 (advanced) prostate cancer. I doubt he is a candidate.
    Dr. Ralph

  • Thanks for the reminder Miss Coulter. I hope the President is listening.
