Not Building the Wall IS a Government Shutdown

Fake News’ question of the week: Will Trump risk a government shutdown over the wall?

The media flip back and forth on who’s to blame for a government shutdown depending on which branch is controlled by Republicans. But the “shutdown” hypothetical in this case is a trick question.

A failure to build the wall IS a government shutdown.

Of course it would be unfortunate if schoolchildren couldn’t visit national parks and welfare checks didn’t get mailed on time. But arranging White House tours isn’t the primary function of the government.

The government’s No. 1 job is to protect the nation.

This has always been true, but it’s especially important at this moment in history, when we have drugs, gang members, diseases and terrorists pouring across our border. The failure of the government to close our border is the definition of a government shutdown.

This isn’t like other shutdowns. Democrats can’t wail about Republicans cutting Social Security or school lunches. They are willing to shut the government down because they don’t want borders.

Take that to the country!

As commander in chief, Trump doesn’t need Congress to build a wall. The Constitution charges him with defending the nation. Contrary to what you may have heard from various warmongers on TV and in Trump’s Cabinet, that means defending our borders — not Ukraine’s borders.

Building a wall is not only Trump’s constitutional duty, but it’s also massively popular.

Although Trump doesn’t need congressional approval for a wall, it was smart for him to demand a vote. Let the Democrats run for re-election on opposing the wall.

Let Sen. Claire McCaskill explain to the parents of kids killed by illegals that she thought a wall was inhumane.

Let Sen. Angus King say to the people of Maine that instead of a wall that would block heroin from pouring into our country, he thought a better plan was to sponsor a bunch of treatment centers for after your kid is already addicted.

Let Sen. Chuck Schumer tell us why it’s OK for Israel to have a wall, but not us.

Let open borders Republicans like Sen. Marco Rubio tell African-Americans that it’s more important to help illegal aliens than to help black American teenagers, currently suffering a crippling unemployment rate.

Republicans are both corrupt and stupid, so it’s hard to tell which one animates their opposition to the wall. But the Democrats are bluffing. They’re trying to get the GOP to fold before they show us their pair of threes.

Now that Trump has capitulated on even asking for funding for a wall, the Democrats are on their knees saying, “Thank you, God! Thank you, God!”

No politician wants to have to explain a vote against the wall. What the Democrats want is for Trump to be stuck explaining why he didn’t build the wall.

Then it will be a bloodbath. Not only Trump, but also the entire GOP, is dead if he doesn’t build a wall. Republicans will be wiped out in the midterms, Democrats will have a 300-seat House majority, and Trump will have to come up with an excuse for why he’s not running for re-election.

The New York Times and MSNBC are not going to say, “We are so impressed with his growth in office, we’re going to drop all that nonsense about Russia and endorse the Republican ticket!”

No, at that point, Trump will be the worst of everything.

No one voted for Trump because of the “Access Hollywood” tape. They voted for him because of his issues; most prominently, his promise to build “a big beautiful wall.” And who’s going to pay for it? MEXICO!

You can’t say that at every campaign rally for 18 months and then not build a wall.

Do not imagine that a Trump double-cross on the wall will not destroy the Republican Party. Oh, we’ll get them back. No, you won’t. Trump wasn’t a distraction: He was the last chance to save the GOP.

Millions of Americans who hadn’t voted in 30 years came out in 2016 to vote for Trump. If he betrays them, they’ll say, “You see? I told you. They’re all crooks.”

No excuses will work. No fiery denunciations of the courts, the Democrats or La Raza will win them back, even if Trump comes up with demeaning Twitter names for them.

It would be an epic betrayal — worse than Bush betraying voters on “no new taxes.” Worse than LBJ escalating the Vietnam War. There would be nothing like it in the history of politics.

He’s the commander in chief! He said he’d build a wall. If he can’t do that, Trump is finished, the Republican Party is finished, and the country is finished.

It would be interesting for our government to create a temporary (2yrs) bivouac of lets say a Brigade or 2 of soldiers along that border. Those 4,000 to 8,000 men and women can certainly stop the ‘INVASION OF LATINOS’ at the border area. ‘AN IMPORTANT POINT: OUR MILITIA AS PART OF PROTECTING AMERICA – IS TO STOP ANY INVASION – TO INCLUDE A NON-VIOLENT LATINO INVASION FROM THE SOUTH’ The reason for the 2 year period of time is so that a strong message is sent to all lands south. Another added benefit will be that the Cartels will have a mighty problem concerning their products delivery systems. ‘THE ADDED BRIGADES WILL ASSIST AT ALL CHECKPOINTS SO AS TO ASSIST IN STEMING THIS DEADLY FLOW DRUGS’. The tide of this flow should stem to some significant degree and with added Navy vessels on each side in the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico the job of the Cartel gets harder. As the inventory grows the whole system of support fails as will the Cartels. A 2 year period is needed.

Trump will build the wall!!! He is a smart man and will find a way to get it done at the expense of the demonrats. I still say we don’t need a wall if we set up machine guns tripped by ground sensors and trip wires if these are set up about 18 in off the ground with over lapping fire patterns would catch any one that walks any where near the border ,also we could add claymore mines that would shred anything that that might make it through wounded ,this would be a good deterent to the wetbacks and the drug cartels

LBJ “War on Poverty” legislation did far more damage to America than his mismanagement of the Vietnam War. Damage that exists to this day.

    • maxx

Fifty years and 22 trillion dollars later and there are more people on the government “plantation” welfare system than ever before. It was never intended to eliminate poverty. It was intended to make tens of millions dependent on the government and therefore democrat voters.

    • Tim Kern

LBJ’s damage to America has historically been underrated. He, Wilson, FDR, and Obama are particularly responsible. Obama is phenomenal in the amount of damage we’ve already seen, and in the depth of damage he created, damage that will take decades of concerted effort to remedy — if we can survive it at all.
The only president who hurt the Republic more was Lincoln, but, in the past century and a half, we have pretty much recovered from him. Damage from the others is still with us.

      • JoeKirkup

        Tim,
I disagree, the Lincoln damage is still with us and multiplying at our expense.

        • Tim Kern

Culturally, economically and constitutionally, I stand corrected. You have a good point.

          • JoeKirkup

            Tim,
When the Iranian dirtbags execute someone they make the family pay for the bullets. Similarly, our culture is being executed and we are being forced to buy the ammo. If I have to buy ammo I want to use it for an entirely different purpose, wink, wink.
            Joe

    • JoeKirkup

      You nailed it Bruce.

Illegal immigration has slowed by 50%+ since Democrats and illegals found out the new Sheriff will start enforcing the laws of America.

President Trump promised a wall, but he will have to wage war with the Irrational Democrats, RINO’s, obamba and Soros and their spy’s and Lemming, plus an assortment of other wacko’s (SnowFlakes, Leftist Fascists, Rioters, etc.).

At some point Trump’s “political capital” will run low and he will have to resort to more direct methods, like deporting SnowFlakes, cutting grants from Sanctuary Cities and the proposed Sanctuary State of Californicate.

It’s entirely possible some on the Left will wake up and realize the drug trade from Mexico is killing their sons and daughters and a wall will also curtail this.

But . . . . before the opposition gets the message . . . . their flag bearer being a JackAss, you often, in order to get its attention, have to smack it between the eyes with a 2×4. 🙂

    • maxx

The lefties are the ones legalizing drugs in every state they control so they obviously are not worried about their kids. Then, abortion is their number 2 obsession. I say abortion is a good thing when practiced by liberals. Helps keep the number of potential liberals down.

  • junkmailbin

Trump already has congressional approval to build boarder walls. It was passed in the Bush era after 9/11. It was not funded by congress but the authorization is still in effect. How about redirecting funds in DHS to start the job. congress is than stuck holding the bag for not providing necessary funds. Ryan and Mitch the bitch would be front and center being grilled about why they are not supplying the funds.
Build the wall, put in electronic surveillance and M2’s on sensors. Have the wall a mile or two back with a no mans land. Pust signs in English with ” You will be shot if your are in this area Pendeno Mericone”.

I tend to agree. I think the country is basically conservative, and if the Republicans governed as conservatives, the Democrat Party would be rendered essentially irrelevant. One of the main arguments against ending the filibuster entirely is that it would apply when the Democrats control the Senate. If the Republican Party was conservative, that would never happen.

    • maxx

You are absolutely right. All the maps showing the areas / districts that are conservative vs liberal are colored overwhelmingly “red”. Only the left and right coasts are blue.

  • SNOWDIN

Unfortunately I do not trust T-Rump. He has been making some decisions that do not reflect what he ran on. One of the problems is his daughter Iskanka and that dirty Jew husband of hers who has ties to Jorge Sor@$$. They both need to go. The Swamp has to be further drained. The Wall has to be Built , maoscumunist No Care has to be fully repealed and Hitley Rotten TNUC and the maoscumunist, Lynchmob, low@$$ Slowlerner,Sleazeann Rice, Conehead, Jorge Sor@SS and the rest of the minions have to be hanged for treason and sedition against America and it’s people.

    • maxx

Yes, all of that and more.

  • Firewagon

GOP = Greatly Overrated Pols, and should be called what they have been for the past fifty odd years: Democrat Lite! They have been excellent at only ONE thing, when given power, shooting themselves in that area defined by the last syllable following Jack, that describes a donkey!

    • daveveselenak

… also ” G – ood O – le P – unks” who always cave in to the communist Left; I’ve come to the conclusion that we have a two-headed, one totalitarian oligarchy which means, as far as I am concerned: REVOLUTION will be the final SOLUTION, politics as usual is not working!

      • maxx

Excellent observation. Politics is game playing and has actually never solved any problem; only made it worse.

    • maxx

Exactly! The GOP repuklicans did not want Trump in the first place or anyplace for that matter. But when the people had had enough and were not to be stopped the GOP and most pundits were dragged screaming into Trumps camp because they thought he was stong enough to win but not strong enough to lead them. The GOP has been playing as you say Democrat Lite ever since the 1960’s when socialism/communism really took over the democRats. Trump needs to stick to his original agenda and expose the GOP for what we conservatives know they are; TRAITORS. Coulter is correct to be worried. Right now it looks like the “repeal” failure has taken some of the wind out of Trumps sail but his staunch supporters are still with him. He had better realize how much power his supporters wield. Stop the stupid “tweeting” and just stay the course. And most of all “don’t trust Paul Ryan or Reince Preibus. They are snakes.

      • Firewagon

“snakes” Perzactilly. A staunch anti-government type, I’m acquainted with, says you have only two choices, not two parties, you can get in bed with the copperheads or rattlesnakes, just know that they are all snakes!

      • JoeKirkup

Speaking for snakes everywhere, I take offense at your comment.

Excellent column, Ann; right on target. However, I have to hope that what we hear from the media about Trump capitulating on his promise to build the wall is media wishful thinking hype. I have to hope that President Trump is enough of a strategist that he is leading the media nincompoops into a trap; that trap being that all the while they [the media] delights in the concept that they have the people convinced that President Trump is reneging on his promise, he [Trump] will have been working behind the scenes laying plans for the wall. Then the construction begins. I’m not ready to give up on President Trump just yet. I’ll keep the faith a bit longer. If his strategy is similar to what I’ve just laid out, he will have killed two birds with one shot. We will get our wall and he will have destroyed the credibility or the left wing socialist media and their “fake news.”. I am, however, ready to give up on the Republicrats in Congress. Oh…woe is me Where are the good ol’ GOP Republicans of my youth?

    • They’re all RINOs now.

      • raffaelecafagna

The Good Old Boys Club .

  • mbarazone

Ann; Let’s you and me show up tonight and in retrospect we will see who history says is the “evil” parties! If they hurt us, we double down. First that would stop em, wouldn’t it? I mean it sure would be a PR disaster for Berkley! Plus, if we live, we will never want for money again!

  • Tim Kern

Well, if President Trump could get Mexico to fund the Wall up front, his EO would be all he needs. But he needs funding, and Congress (specifically, the House) controls that.
What is unimaginable is that some D.C.-based cretins oppose it, and that, no matter what the reasons, it’s always the Republicans who are guilty of “government shutdown.”
Do Democrats think that keeping our border open to criminals is worth shutting down the government?

    • ch

Yes they do as that is their voting base and they WANT POWER. Obama Gives Mexico $75 Million to Build a Southern Border …
US Building “Trump” Border Wall in Tunisia: Obama Funding $ 25 Million for Libyan-Jihadist Barrier

The Great Wall of Jordan, King Abdullah II of Jordan met with President Barack Obama at the White House
So exactly why is it that Our wall cannot be built?

  • I don’t often agree with Coulter, but she’s 100% right. Only it’s not just “the wall” that his presidency hinges on, hangs on–it’s other Immigration things like 1) going after Sanctuary Cities, 2) getting Rep. Lamar Smith to resurrect his HR 1147 National Mandatory E-verify bill (providing it weakened in the Senate or by Demo/RINO amendments) and 3) changing Immigration law by a) removing the word “knowingly” so that lawbreaking employers can be easily prosecuted for hiring illegals and b) removing the law that disallows employers from checking their current employees with E-verify so that illegal alien workers can be removed.

  • unreconstructed

Ann Coulter illustrates perfectly why Sam Francis called the Republican Party the “Stupid Party.”

  • jfl

How is it that the Republican leadership always lets the Democrats spin a government shutdown against the Republicans?
Ms Coulter’s article above mentioned several positives about having the wall. Points like these should have been pushed, making the Democrats the bad guys for being against the wall.
Somehow they always let the Democrats position the Republicans as the bad guys!

    • donS2

Because 50% of the republicans are against the wall as well. Their donors who have already bought them will withhold campaign contributions if they vote for the wall. That 50% does not give a darn about the voters or the Country, only their re-election.

    • Jerryb53

jfl….Come on man! The 2 Parties are the same. The GOP is doing this on purpose. You think that they could not get things done if they wanted to? This is all a stage play and we are in the final act of the coup against America.

Trump should have started putting the plan in place to build the wall from day 1 and construction should have started his 1st month in office. How many Hotels has he built? Don’t you think the building of the wall could have been started? He boasted how he never wastes time in his construction projects. He needs no approval from Congress. If he doesn’t build the wall then America is the last piece in the puzzle of the New World Order.

  • Nancy Mae

junkmailbin, Excellent!! Great idea, “boarder wall was passed”…most people don’t know that; gotcha!!

  • JoeKirkup

I wonder what would happen if someone started a 501c GoFundMe account to finance the wall. Take all the money you were going to send to the RNC and donate it. Donate all your political contributions. Donate all your charitable contributions and write all of it off. Maybe these RINO jackasses would get the hint.
